When I was very young and played the organ in our church I became obsessed with this piece. I was able to buy a copy somehow and gave it to my piano teacher Miss Alison Hulchur who was also an organist. She was excited to learn it.

Majestic! Both the playing and the piece. Have loved this since our choirmaster played it in 1980 at the end of our Festival of 9 lessons and carols. Bravo.

Mr Hakim's excellent playing aside, I'm amazed that a 27 year old Olivier Messian wrote an incredible piece of music such as Dieu Parmi Nous.

Fantastic organist, had the great pleasure of seeing him in concert at Liverpool Anglican Cathedral a few years ago, he played the entire programme without a single sheet of music in front of him, pure genius.

Brava!! An absolutely magnificent performance by Dame Gillian on a perfect instrument for the piece (the only better one - perhaps - being the CC organ at La Trinité). I'm only sorry that whoever was behind the camera chose to wander all over the building rather than focus on her extraordinary playing (this is an organ work, not an architecture documentary - please!). I hope footage exists of her playing the rest of this marvellous work. Thank you for sharing this absolute treat!

Those who say it's too fast should listen to Willcock's "Sing Halleluja" played as Pfingsmonstags Postludium in 2013 in Cologne with this melody as ground.

if only people could just shut the fck up with their coughs and not be as braindead to leave their phone's sound on this eprformance wouldve been way more pleasant

This recording sounds slightly different to how I remember it, and the Organists comments about the Organ Builder are missing awful!!

Hmpf. I heard a number of interpretations of this piece … and it is _not_ made for the organ. The organ is a - how shall I put it? - rather slow, powerful instrument, and not suited for something _that_ fast. Listen to the sabre dance on an accordion or on a balalaika, and you know what I mean.

This makes me wonder: was this magnificent organ made for Danse Macabre or was Danse Macabre written for this organ? Either way, this performance was out of this world!
